In Iyar 5771, the first Yeshiva for bochurim who have reached Shidduchim age and have not yet found their Bashert. During this period, waiting for their own Kriat Yam Suf, these boys sometimes drift around in different Yeshivos, without a proper place for their stage in life. Rabbi David Shefer took it upon himself to establish a Yeshiva designed for older Bochurim. Yeshiva Orayta is structured to raise the image and self-esteem of these wonderful young men, whose only flaw is just the fact that they have not yet found their match. Orayta, established with much labor and sweat, was founded to be a Yeshiva that is a warm, welcoming home. Here they receive support and care, they continue to learn, to uplift their Avodas Hashem and Chassidus and receive life skills. They flourish and build their character in a friendly, loving environment until they build their own home, Iy”h speedily.
Orayta is not just a Yeshiva. It is a family too – the Orayta family. This is a loving home and fortress for the Yeshiva students. Here, within the warm environment of the Yeshiva they receive, first and foremost, a sense of belonging. Here they are needed, here they are fully accepted, they are family! The dormitory rooms are comfortable and welcoming, the meals lavish and generous. The atmosphere is home-like, welcoming and full of fun experiences. We think out of the box in Orayta. We consider only what’s best for every student, and for his future. Therefore, in the evenings, after a day of Tora learning, we gather for evening classes. Every student chooses what he desires to learn, with thought of each boy’s abilities and interests. Some choose to delve deep in Tanya, some study Shechting, Halacha and Ma’ase, some study Kashrut in depth, or learn the art of Sta”m writing. We ensure that they learn seriously and acquire a means of Parnasa, ready to start with confidence. This is unique to Orayta only, helping each student to be able to support their family IY”H, providing them with life skills and means for their future.
Orayta is always a home and family, at all times and places. In Eretz Yisrael and abroad – we hold a yearly trip to Lizhensk, a weeklong magical voyage that has become a well-known symbol of Orayta. For a week the Bochurim forget about everything and rise to a holy atmosphere of longing and prayer at the tombs of the great Rabbis in Europe. During Chagim we hold davening and meals at the Yeshiva, with a happy, joyous ambiance, with plenty of everything – for both body and soul. This is besides the Shabboses and events and trips to uplift soul and spirits. May we be Zocheh to continue this with joy!
